5000 Robotic-Assisted Surgeries

5000 Robotic-Assisted Surgeries
Frederick Health proudly celebrates its 5,000th robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci surgical systems. This puts Frederick Health in the top 6% nationwide for robotic-assisted da Vinci surgeries. That means more experienced surgeons and better outcomes for patients.

For over a decade, Frederick Health has utilized the da Vinci systems, a state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgery technology, supporting surgeons that specialize in a wide range of soft tissue procedures involving internal organs, masses or tumors, and hernias or defects. The da Vinci SI and da Vinci XI have been used by Frederick Health surgeons to reach this impressive milestone. The newest addition to this growing suite of robots, the da Vinci 5, was unveiled in September making Frederick Health the first and only health care system in Maryland offering this innovative platform.

"Frederick Health is leading the way regarding robotic surgery," says Dr. Shyam Jayaraman, a General Surgeon with Frederick Health Medical Group specializing in complex hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction.

Over the past several years, Frederick Health has invested significantly in its robotic-assisted surgery systems, recruited world-class surgeons, and added over a hundred Registered Nurses, assistants, technicians, and other support personnel to the surgery care team. When partnered with the state-of-the-art da Vinci surgical systems, these investments have improved patient outcomes and experiences.

"We are recognized as a source of surgical excellence, especially robotic-assisted surgery excellence," said Dr. Jayaraman. "5,000 surgeries is no small achievement, and this accomplishment reflects a sustained commitment to providing the best possible care to our community."
