Recognized for Heart Care Excellence

At Frederick Health, the community can take comfort in knowing an expert team of healthcare professionals is on hand to offer excellent care. As the leading healthcare provider of emergency care in the area, especially emergency cardiac and stroke care, Frederick Health has worked diligently to improve access, develop new and innovative facilities to care for patients, and invested in expanding its team members and technologies. Ultimately, those investments lead to better patient outcomes and a healthier community.

As recognition of those efforts, Frederick Health has received three nationally recognized awards from the American Heart Association for implementing specific quality care improvement measures, including:

  • Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center Gold with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
  • Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease NSTMI Gold with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
  • Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

This is the fourth year in a row that Frederick Health has earned these awards.

The goal of Get With The Guidelines is to reduce system barriers to prompt, quick, reliable treatment for heart attacks, categorized as STEMI or NSTEMI, and stroke. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people experience heart attacks or a stroke. Last year, Frederick Health treated over 2,160 cardiac patients and over 500 stroke patients.

"Frederick Health is a leader in cardiac and stroke care. From innovative procedures to state-of-the-art facilities and a team of nearly a hundred trained and expert cardiac and stroke professionals, we are here to care for the needs of this community," said Amy Burrier, Director of Cardiac & Vascular Services with Frederick Health. "It is an honor for Frederick Health to be recognized for our dedication and excellence in treating cardiac and stroke patients."

Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest research- and evidence-based guidelines.

Get With The Guidelines - Stroke is an in-hospital program for improving stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to these guidelines, which can minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death.

"These awards show Frederick Health's commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee and chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern Medicine. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Frederick Health can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
