Frederick Health Hospital’s emergency department is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our separate Pediatric Emergency Center is staffed 24 hours a day by emergency physicians and specially trained pediatric staff. You can access this specialized area by visiting the emergency department.

Our emergency department cares for more than 65,000 patients from all over the Frederick area every year. We have a team of medical professionals who will care for you, including board-certified providers and nurses, Advanced Practice Providers (also known as physician assistants), emergency care technicians, and other support staff and health care team members.

Our mission is to quickly provide thorough and specialized treatment and accurate diagnosis for all patients. Our experienced health care team follows procedures and processes based on the most current information and industry standards.

Information for Visitors

We value family and friends because they support our patients and provide information that can help in a patient’s diagnosis and treatment. Due to the nature of emergency care, we must limit the number of visitors in the treatment area to two per patient. We recommend that you appoint someone as your “spokesperson” to communicate with family and friends as we relay information.

When you arrive at our emergency department, you will be greeted and escorted to an intake area. Team members will begin assessing and treating you. In some cases, we might begin tests and treatment at this time. Patients are moved through our system based on an assigned level from one to five, with one being the most severe emergency.

Specialized Emergency Services

We are a certified Stroke Center with a dedicated stroke team, which provides rapid diagnosis and innovative stroke care. Additionally, we are a certified Cardiac Center and have a rapid chest pain evaluation process to recognize symptoms of a heart attack early and treat you quickly.
