What to expect during your CT exam
Before Your Exam:
- If you have an order from your physician, please bring it with you.
- Dress comfortably and avoid wearing metal. You may be given a gown or shorts to wear during your exam.
- You will be asked to complete one or more exam questionnaires. Please bring a list of medications.
- Depending on the type of exam, you may be asked to arrive early to drink contrast. An IV may be required for IV contrast.
During Your Exam:
- You will lie either head-first or feet-first on the exam table.
- You may be asked to hold your breath during the scan.
- The actual CT scan usually takes just a few minutes and is relatively painless.
- The table will move in and out of the CT scanner while images are obtained.
After Your Exam:
- Once the CT scan is completed you may resume your normal activities.
- You will be given any special instructions after your exam.
- Your CT scan will be interpreted by a board-certified radiologist and printed results sent to your physician.
