What to expect during your MR exam
Before Your Exam:
- Dress comfortably. You may be given a gown or shorts to wear during your exam.
- You will be asked to complete one or more exam questionnaires. Please bring a list of your medications.
- An IV may be started prior to your exam if your exam requires IV contrast.
During Your Exam:
- You will lie on your back on the exam table and the table will move you into the center of the magnet. (The body part that is imaged must be in the center of the magnet).
- You will be given earplugs to protect you from the loud radio waves. You will be given a call button to hold during the exam in the event you need assistance.
- MRI exams vary in length depending on what body part is being imaged.
After Your Exam:
- Once the MR scan is completed you may resume your normal activities, unless given special instructions.
- You may be given special instructions after your exam.
- Your MR scan will be interpreted by a board-certified radiologist and printed results sent to your physician.
